The “Father of Western Philosophy” Aristotle, once said, “No great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.”  The inventors of great tech products and applications were mad enough to solve a problem for themselves but end up creating something that changed the way people work.  Inventors are innovators in the true sense of the word. 

In this article, we will introduce you to some great programmers who coded in a relatively short time and created some great products. 

Isaac Schlueter 

Have you ever used Node Package Manager (NPM) for the Node.js project or for AngularJS, React, Vue.js? Do you know who made your javascript programming easier?

This open-source platform was developed by the man who has “seen module packing done terribly.”  Now serving more than 11 million developers worldwide, Isaac Schlueter is the first programmer in our list who developed NPM and is making JavaScript programming more elegant, safe and productive. 

Guido van Rossum

How many of you are Python developers? How many of you love Python more than Java? How many of you have used Python in most of your web development projects? But how many of you, know who created Python? 

Well, this high-level language with short syntax is authored by a Dutch programmer, Guido van Rossum.  In December 1989, Rossum never knew that his “hobby” programming project that he started to occupy himself in Christmas week will end up in the creation of the world’s most popular programming language. 

Brendan Eich 

How many of us prefer Candy Crush Saga over any other video game? Are you a Netflix fan? Do you have an account on Facebook? Do you use Uber? 

Well, all these applications are developed on JavaScript.  Some of you might have known this fact but do you know who developed JavaScript? 

Brendan Eich created this most popular programming language within 10 days.  For those 10 days in 1995, Brendan gave up his sleep and committed to hard work. 

Ryan Dahl

Which language allows you to use JavaScript to write command-line tools? Did you ever hear about Ryan Dahl? 

Ryan Dahl wrote the earlier implementation of Node.js in less than a year after being challenged by the problem of “updating a  progress meter on a web page for uploading files with Ruby web services.” Rahl Dahl was amazed by the problem. That’s how the programming world got Node.js. 

Paul Buchheit

Can you please help me with your email id? I’ll share the google document on your G-mail. Have you ever given a thought on how our lives would be without this amazing invention called ‘Gmail.’  

If this thought scares you, then you need to thank Paul Buchheit for developing Gmail because he was not happy with the existing email providers. This project was kept secret most of Google engineers under the code name Caribou and released on 1st April 2004. 

Jordan Walke 

Which language is often considered to be the future of web development? Which language is used by top corporations such as Facebook, PayPal, Uber, Instagram, and Airbnb to solve user interface related issues? 

Well! We know your mind is jumping with the answer. But do you know who created React and made web development a little easier? 

If you are a front-end developer you need to thank Jordan Walke, a software engineer at Facebook for releasing an early prototype of React called “FAXJS” in 2011. He was influenced by XHP.  It was made open-source in 2013. React came into existence when it became difficult for engineers at Facebook Ads Org. to maintain the code as Facebook got bigger and new features slowed down the application. 

Rasmus Lerdorf 

How many of you work on the backend of any web page? How many of you have worked on PHP? How many of you know the history of PHP? 

Rasmus Lerdorf created PHP in mid-nineties in order to maintain the page on which he posted his resume, but little did he knew that this will become a turning point that will set his resume apart from every computer programmer in the world. 

Roy Fielding

It will be foolish to ask anyone about HTTP and REACT but do you know about its creator? Roy Thomas Fielding came up with the idea of REACT and HTTP when he realized the terrible condition of the web and gave the new definition to the web. 

David Axmark and Michael Widenius

Recent software developers often ask about the scope of MySQL, its popularity and its benefits. But does anyone know about its creation? 

Relax! Interviewers will not get into its history but its always good to increase your pool of talent.  

MySQL was created by David Axmark and Michael Widenius in 1995. Michael Widenius developed an in-house database tool called UNIREG for managing databases. After that UNIREG has been rewritten in several languages and extended to handle big databases. After some time Michael Widenius contacted David Hughes, the author of mSQL, to see if Hughes would be interested in connecting mSQL to UNIREG’s B+ ISAM handler to provide indexing to MySQL. That’s the way MySQL came into existence.

Trygve Reenskaug

Trygve Reenskaug came up with the MVC design pattern when he wanted to create a solution to the problem of users controlling a large and complex data set.
