Why Mentorship is Important?

“A mentor empowers a person to see a possible future, and believe it can be obtained”
Shawn Hitchcock

In Indian culture Guru (mentor) is given an important position. In Indian history, all great warriors had great mentors. A mentor not only guides you but also walk with you in darkness. Our Scriptures, highlight the Guru-Shishya bond between Arjun & Dhronacharya in Mahabharata. Arjun had Dronacharya as a mentor while he was learning Dhanurviyda, Bhishma Pitamah as a mentor when he was learning life lessons, and Lord Krishna as a mentor when he was on the battlefield.

If we move from a battlefield to the corporate world, then we will see how famous entrepreneurs succeeded as billionaires with the help of a mentor. Did you know Mark Zuckerberg, Co-Founder & CEO of, Facebook had an inspiring mentor, Steve Jobs? In an interview with American talk show host Charlie Rose, Zuckerberg discussed how Steve Jobs helped in building “high quality and good things” The Harvard drop-out, Microsoft founder Bill Gates credits part of his success to his mentor, businessman, and investor, Warren Buffet.

It is essential to understand the importance of a mentor in life. Success is not a one-man show there is an army that prepares and motivates you to walk on the path of success.

Still need a reason to look for a mentor;

Important for Entrepreneurial Success:

This is a fact widely recognized that “No entrepreneur ever succeeded without facing failure.” Failure is an essential part of innovation entrepreneurship. Failure is not a step backward, it is a stepping stone to success. But who motivates an entrepreneur to continue the process? How a startup founder gain access to a domain-specific network?

A mentor is an individual who not only communicates his personal experience but also validates an idea. It’s like having a map that can guide you to your destination without getting lost, losing time or fuel!

Helps in Doing Right:

It is a human tendency to feel uninspired after a time. It becomes difficult to stay productive. A mentor helps an individual to keep his energy high. Junior, mid or senior, every professional need a mentor who can redirect him to the right path. Even the most senior-level employee is often surprised at their realization about how much they would benefit from mentoring. But it’s indeed true that mentoring is for everyone.

Gives Objective Advice and Constructive Criticism:

Criticism is as important as appreciation. Having a mentor is not a sign of weakness but an effort towards learning and improving. Honest feedback from a mentor helps the mentee to grow & evolve.
